Since he lives in a log home, that tells you the style he likes, therefore more rustic/primitive decor is needed. Pine furniture with simple straight lines could be used. Darker colored cotton fabric would be an option. Plaids are commonly used for this look. Burgundies, dark greens and shades of brown would be the colors that I would recommend.
